what are Blepharoplasty & Ptosis
The combination of blepharoplasty and ptosis repair is often the best solution for tired-looking eyes. Many patients will notice the sagging skin in their upper or lower eyelids or become aware of drooping eyelids but do not realize they have both problems. If only one of these concerns is addressed, it will draw attention to the other issue. Blepharoplasty is intended to tighten the skin and remove the extra fat from the upper or lower eyelids. Ptosis repair is the correction of a low / droopy eyelid due to muscle weakness of the lid. Therefore, combining both procedures gives the best results. As an leading expert in Oculoplastic Surgery, Dr. James Gordon is highly trained and experienced to perform this complex combination technique with an artistic eye and meticulous skills.

how are Blepharoplasty & Ptosis performed?
UPPER AND/OR LOWER BLEPHAROPLASTY
Dr. Gordon can perform upper and/or lower blepharoplasty in his office surgical suite or in his accredited surgical facility adjacent to his office. Blepharoplasty entails the removal and/or repositioning of fat in the upper or lower eyelids with the removal of excess skin. Depending on the individual, local, IV and/or oral anesthesia will be administered to the patient. Incisions are meticulously made in the upper/lower eyelids as needed and closed with fine sutures to yield the most inconspicuous results.
PTOSIS
Ptosis repair is typically a brief surgical procedure which can eliminate the drooping or closing of the eyelid. Simple local anesthesia is administered. Incisions can be made through the skin or even through the back of the eyelid so no scar is seen. Absorbable sutures are often used.

The combined procedure typically takes 1 – 2 hours. Most patients take 2 weeks off of work and other activities to recover after ptosis surgery. Dr. Gordon will talk to each patient about post-surgical care instructions, including what can be done to speed healing. Dr. Gordon asks patients to schedule a follow up appointment for 5 – 7 days after the surgery so he can assess the patient’s healing progress and check for any concerns.

For patients with upper blepharoplasty with ptosis repair, it will cost about $7,900. Ptosis repair with upper and lower blepharoplasty costs approximately $9,900. During the initial consultation, Dr. Gordon will discuss treatment plan and his surgical coordinator will review pricing details.

WHAT ARE RECOVERY TIPS FOR BLEPHAROPLASTY & PTOSIS?
Applying cold compresses following eyelid surgery can help to diminish bruising and swelling. In addition, tenderness after surgery is greatly reduced by cold compresses, so most patients require Tylenol or no pain medicine. Sleeping with head elevation (pillows or lazy chair) will decrease swelling as well. Some physicians and patients believe in products made with Arnica which might decrease bruising and swelling.
