Eyelid Surgery
Festoon Treatment
Surgical Artistry
OVERVIEW
Festoons are mounds of swollen, lax skin that appear on the upper cheek and lower eyelid, creating a persistent puffy appearance that does not improve with rest or cold compresses. Unlike ordinary under-eye bags, festoons involve the cheek skin and often contain a pocket of fluid. Dr. Gordon offers surgical and laser-based approaches to achieve lasting improvement.
BENEFITS
Eliminates persistent lower eyelid and cheek mounds
Restores a smoother, more contoured under-eye and cheek transition
Addresses fluid accumulation and skin laxity simultaneously
Dramatic improvement not achievable with fillers or injectables alone
Long-lasting results when combined with lifestyle modifications
AM I A CANDIDATE?
- Candidates are patients who have persistent, swollen mounds beneath the eyes and across the upper cheek that are constant rather than fluctuating. Festoons are often worsened by sun exposure, smoking, and fluid retention. Patients should be in good health, non-smokers, and willing to follow post-operative care instructions to optimize healing.
THE PROCEDURE
Surgical treatment involves a lower eyelid approach combined with mid-face tissue repositioning and excision of redundant skin and muscle. In select cases, CO2 laser resurfacing of the festoon area promotes skin tightening and addresses dermal laxity. The combination of surgical lifting and laser resurfacing often provides the most comprehensive improvement.
