Ectropion and Entropion Repair
Vision & Precision
OVERVIEW
Ectropion and entropion are conditions in which the lower eyelid turns outward or inward, respectively. Both conditions expose the cornea, lead to chronic irritation, and can cause significant damage to the eye surface if left untreated. Dr. Gordon restores proper eyelid positioning through targeted surgical repair, protecting your eye health and relieving discomfort.
BENEFITS
Restores normal eyelid position to protect the cornea and eye surface
Relieves chronic tearing, irritation, and redness
Prevents corneal damage caused by exposure or eyelash abrasion
Performed as a brief outpatient procedure
Long-lasting correction with minimal scarring
AM I A CANDIDATE?
- Patients experiencing an outward-turning lower eyelid (ectropion) with excessive tearing and eye irritation, or an inward-turning eyelid (entropion) causing lash contact with the eye, are candidates for surgical repair. These conditions are most common in older adults but can occur at any age due to scarring or prior surgery.
THE PROCEDURE
For ectropion, a lateral tarsal strip procedure tightens the lower eyelid tendons to restore normal outward position. For entropion, sutures or a small tissue excision are used to evert the eyelid margin and prevent the lashes from contacting the eye surface. Both procedures are performed under local anesthesia as outpatient surgery.
