Overview

As we age, the skin begins to change as a result of several different life factors. The natural collagen within the skin begins to diminish and skin may also sag and droop. Smoking, alcohol consumption, sun exposure, nutrition, and more can also lead to the development of wrinkles and fine lines. Other skin conditions such as acne, brown spots, and chicken pox can leave unattractive blemishes on the skin. Laser skin resurfacing can erase or reduce the visibility of skin problems and reveal a healthier face. Dr. Gordon is known as an expert in laser skin resurfacing and is instrumental in the training of many physicians around the world.

Dr. Gordon's Guide to Laser Skin Resurfacing

LightPod Era®

The LightPod Era is a portable erbium laser that quickly and safely treats skin concerns, such as lines, wrinkles, age spots, sun damage, and large pores. The LightPod Era can also be used to minimize scars, including acne and burn scars. Dr. Gordon pioneered the research and development of the LightPod Era and was the first doctor in the U.S. to utilize the world’s only portable erbium laser for skin resurfacing.

Fraxel® DUAL

The Fraxel DUAL laser skin resurfacing system uses non-ablative lasers to treat mild to severe skin damage. The Fraxel DUAL treats wrinkles, sun damage, acne scars, and discolorations. Patients usually receive their best results by getting 3 – 5 sessions with 2 – 4 weeks in between each session.

About The Procedure

If needed, Dr. Gordon will use local anesthesia or numbing creams to help minimize patient discomfort before beginning the procedure. The chosen laser system will vaporize the surface skin and reveal the undamaged layer beneath. The laser skin resurfacing treatment takes only 30 – 75 minutes and can be done in Dr. Gordon’s minor procedures room.

During/After The Procedure

After the procedure, the skin may be red or swollen for the first week, but this should subside on its own. Patients should make a follow up appointment for 5 – 7 days after the treatment so Dr. Gordon can ensure the area is healing properly and also document their results. Patients may be given an ointment for their skin to help healing as well as instructions for proper cleansing. Patients should avoid shaving, waxing, or using depilatory creams in the treated areas.

Expected Cost

Laser skin resurfacing starts from $2,500 for the eye area and costs approximately $3,000 - $5,000 for the face. Dr. Gordon will recommend a treatment plan and his surgical coordinator will discuss the pricing.

Laser Skin Resurfacing FAQs

Other Treatments?

Laser resurfacing offers patients many advantages over traditional resurfacing procedures such as chemical peels and microdermabrasion, as it practically eliminates side effects such as discomfort, bleeding, and bruising.

LightPod Era Vs. Fraxel?

The LightPod Era laser system treats a wider range of skin conditions and patients will have their best results after 1 treatment. The Fraxel DUAL laser system requires 3 – 5 treatments for patients to get their best results. Patients also report more discomfort during and after the Fraxel DUAL treatment as compared to the LightPod Era.

Before The Procedure?

For better results and faster healing, Dr. Gordon suggests that patients avoid smoking as much as possible before the procedure, avoid unprotected sun exposure, avoid anti-inflammatory drugs (such as aspirin), avoid using skin care products (like lotions), and drink a lot of water. Dr. Gordon asks that his patients disclose their full medical history before the procedure so he can make the procedure as safe and painless as possible.
